Locations in China
Due to its enormous size, ancient culture, densely populated cities, and gigantic filming infrastructure, China has a lot to offer. With Dr. Zhivago-like snowscapes and Mongolian grasslands in the north, breathtaking and often colorful deserts in the west, gorgeous rock formations in the center, tropical rainforests and Himalayan mountains in the south, and massive modern cities along the east coast, China offers filmmakers a kaleidoscope of unique and memorable cinematic locations. Many films have taken advantage of these locations like the recent "Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore" (magical waterfalls and Karst mountains of Guilin), Spike Jonze’s “Her" (the futuristic city of Shanghai), IMAX "Panda Movie" (natural beauty of panda territory in Sichuan Province), "The Painted Veil" (ancient Chinese villages), "Star Wars" (Guilin Karst mountains), "Mulan", "Transformers", "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon", etc. In addition to these outdoor locations, China has over the past decades built a plethora of stages and ancient film sets to meet the explosive demand of local film and TV production. In fact one of the largest stages in the world exists in China, and is easily accessible via a 1 hour plane ride from the capital city of Beijing. Both Beijing and Shanghai also have many stages and backlots as well.
